About Us

FLORIDA SCHILLING— Owner

I was born and raised in Tahiti and as a grade school student,  my favorite subject was geography.  I was always intrigued and fascinated by the diversity and cultures of the world. The opportunity came in March 1974 when I was hired by Virginia Thompson to be a travel consultant.  I became the manager of  Creekside Travel in 1979; and in the summer of 2009, I was offered the ownership of Thompson Creekside Travel.

I take pleasure seeing a trip unfold and to be part of anyone’s travels, whether a honeymoon or family reunion or just for fun.

I believe travel cultivates  your mind and opens your horizons to the various cultures through its people, history and food.

Some of my favorite destinations are Vietnam, Cambodia, Peru, Argentina, Turkey, and India.  Their history, people and food are just amazing and interesting.

Travel agencies have struggled to stay in business since 9/11. The elimination of commissions from the airlines and the onslaught of direct online marketing had caused consumers to forget their loyalty to their travel agent. I believe that airlines need to recognize the role of travel agents. As sellers of travel, our expertise and advice are valuable and we should be compensated for our time and efforts.

ANNETTE BARRET— Independent Travel Consultant

Annette’s love of travel started at a young age – growing up in Denmark she criss-crossed Europe as a youngster and eventually ended up moving to the US and settling down in Napa in 1985. Her travel agent career started in 1988 at Thompson Creekside travel where she enjoyed sharing her passion for travel with her clients, especially exotic destinations and active adventure travel.

Annette changed careers in 2000 after 12 years as an agent, but she kept travelling  –  and missed the joy of sharing the of the places she has visited with clients. Technology now allows her to hold down her day job in the wine industry and still serve her travel clients needs. Adventure travel, active group vacations and exotic destinations are Annette’s personal favorites -  so call or e-mail – get out there and see the world!

BERNICE SOUSA-CARDEN - Travel Consultant/Accredited Cruise Counselor

I was born in the Azores Islands and my first perception of the world was when I was 5 or 6 years old watching the sun set with my father. I asked him what happened to the sun after it set. His reply was that the sun went on its journey and that its next stop was America. That statement impressed me and made me aware that there was more to the world beyond our small island and I believe that was the catalyst for my love of travel.

My family immigrated to the US when I was 10 years old and traveling on a ship between the islands and then our trans-Atlantic flight on Pan Am was my first travel experience and one which I will never forget. My interest in history, geography and foreign languages, resulted in my foreign languages major in college and achieving my lifelong dream of teaching in the public schools.

As a single teacher, I took advantage of school breaks to get away and travel. After my marriage, my husband and I continued traveling, and soon we decided that we wanted to share our love of travel with others. We have escorted golf and tennis groups to many domestic and foreign destinations.

In our mature years, my husband and I are spending more time in our condo on the island of Maui. As you can see, I am an island girl at heart and I have returned to my roots.

I always loved teaching my students about the world and other cultures and this love translated itself to my second career as a travel consultant. It is so exciting for me to help my clients with their travel plans and—as I tried opening the world to my students—I now try to do the same with my clients. I feel as if I am on the journey with them and my husband often says that “I travel vicariously through my clients”. I have over twenty years of experience in the travel business, and I believe that it is very important to stay up-to-date on what is happening in the travel field. I am a member of the North Bay Travel Professional group; and as the perpetual student, I have taken many Travel Agent Training courses. I am certified as an Accredited Cruise Counselor and I completed many Specialist courses including the Hawaii Specialist and Golf Travel Specialist.

I look forward to assisting you with your travel plans.
